Course Overview: Gouache, used by manuscript artists as early as the 1500s and embraced by 18th-century painters and 20th-century illustrators and poster artists, has made a vibrant comeback. Fast drying, portable and richly opaque, gouache is equally suited to travel sketching and focused studio work.
In this course, you will explore its distinctive qualities, from painting light over dark to building bold areas of solid colour and achieving a soft matte surface that photographs beautifully. Through demonstrations and personalized guidance, you will create colourful landscapes using both provided reference images and your own. Ideal for beginners and intermediate painters, this course also offers experienced artists a fresh way to expand their practice. The techniques you learn will translate easily to acrylic, oil and traditional watercolour.
