Grant Types

Anniversary
These grants allocate funds to the planning and executing of an anniversary event.

Composite
Projects that encompass several activities within the same time period.

Dissemination
These grants support the broadcasting or spreading of information in any format.

Events
These grants support costs related to events.

Fellowship
These grants fund the professional development and artistic growth for an individual, in the context of their artistic practice. 

Internship
A training opportunity (often unpaid) centred on acquiring experience and qualifications.

Materials
These grants allocate funds towards the acquiring of materials for artistic practice.

Mentorship
Training program with a specific individual, centred on patronage, influence and guidance.

Microgrant
A smaller sum of funds than a typical grant.

Operating
These grants allocate funds to organizations to support their core functionalities and operations. 

Outreach
Bringing services or information to people.

Production
The creation of a product within an artistic context, ie. music albums, literary pieces, etc…

Professional Development
The advancement of skills, traits and competencies that contribute to one’s success in the workplace. Professional development opportunities can include travel, workshops, training programs, etc…

Programming
These grants support the programming of an organization or applicant. Programming refers to the public activities initiated by the applicant.

Project
A singular project or activity within a time period.

Research
The investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.

Seed
These grants support the kickstarting of small-scale innovation activities.

Support
These grants allocate funds to either 1) the support of marginalized groups or communities or 2) services to increase accessibility such as translation or interpretation costs. 

Touring and Circulation
These grants support costs related to touring and/or the circulation of artistic works. Touring and circulation activities refer to the travel of groups or artists within the context of networking and artistic exchange. 

Training
General training programs or activities.

Travel
These grants allocate funds towards supporting travel expenses.

Applicant Types

Ad Hoc
Groups created to serve a specific purpose. Ad Hoc groups must include at least two members.

Group
Groups must include at least two members. 

Collective
A group of artists working together to achieve a common objective.

Artist-Run Centre
A visual arts space run for and by artists. Usually not centred on profit and provides opportunities for artists to experiment and create.

Artist
An individual practicing art professionally.

Individual
A person (does not have to be a practicing artist)

Arts Service Organization
A non-profit organization whose purpose is the promotion of the arts on a nation-wide basis through activities such as: sponsoring arts exhibitions or performances. conducting workshops and development programs related to the arts.

BIPOC
Refers to Black, Indigenous, and people of color.

Choir
An organized group of singers.

Community
A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.

Company
A commercial business, ie. a record label.

Cultural
Cultural establishments. 

Curator
A keeper,  manager or organizer of artistic works or collections.

Education
Educational purposes.

Festival
An organized series of concerts, plays, movies, or activities, typically one held annually in the same place.

Francophone
One who is primarily French speaking.

Gallery
A room or building for the display or sale of works of art.

Indigenous
One who self-identifies as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.

Municipality
A city or town that has corporate status and local government.

Museum
A building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited.

Non-Profit Organization
A legal entity that is formed and operated for charitable or socially beneficial purposes rather than to make a profit.

Orchestra
A group of instrumentalists, especially one combining string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections.

Parent/guardian/caregiver
Parent/guardian refers to the legal guardian of a child. Caregiver is a broader term, referring to a person providing daily care to a child, and with whom the child lives.

Publisher
A person or company that prepares and issues books, journals, music, or other works for sale.

Registered Charity
Refers to a charitable organization, public foundation, or private foundation registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.

School
An educational institution.

Youth
A person under 18 years of age.

Grant Status

Active
The grant or program is currently open and accepting applications.

Currently Inactive
The grant or program is currently closed and not accepting applications.

Rolling
The grant or program is ongoing and accepts applications continuously or periodically.

Upcoming
The grant or program will open and accept applications within the current year.
